Crisis Communications Workshop and Presentation by Rick J. Kaufman, APR, Executive Director of Community Relations for Bloomington (Minn.) Public Schools | 1-5 p.m.
An 18-year veteran of school communications and public relations, Rick is the Executive Director of Community Relations for Bloomington (Minn.) Public Schools. He formerly served this same role for Colorado's largest public school system, where he led the Crisis Response Team to the Columbine High School tragedy in April 1999.
Rick is a nationally respected consultant on Crisis Management and Communications, Media Relations, Community Engagement, Communication Planning, and Tax Levy/Referendum Campaigns. He has provided media relations and crisis management counsel and training to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons for the Timothy McVeigh execution; the New York Education Commission and New York City Schools following the terrorist attacks in September, 2001; the U.S. Department of Education, FEMA, the Los Angeles Office of the FBI, the Wisconsin Health and Hospital Association, and numerous universities and state emergency management agencies.

Dr. Joe Sanfelippo is the Superintendent of the Fall Creek School District in Fall Creek, WI. The Fall Creek School District was named an Innovative District in 2016 and 2017 by the International Center for Leadership in Education. He holds a bachelor of arts in elementary and early childhood education, a master of science in educational psychology, a master of science in educational leadership, and a doctorate in leadership, learning, and service.
Joe has taught kindergarten, second grade, and fifth grade. He has served as a principal in suburban and rural Wisconsin. Joe co-authored The Power of Branding: Telling Your School’s Story, Principal Professional Development: Leading Learning in a Digital Age, and Hacking Leadership: 10 Ways Great Leaders Inspire Learning That Teachers, Students, and Parents Love. He was selected as 1 of 117 Future Ready Superintendents in 2014 and 1 of 50 Superintendents as a Personalized Learning Leader in 2016 by the U.S. Department of Education. He was named 1 of 5 K-12 Administrators to watch in 2018 by Education Dive.
